POLL TAX:
AN ORDIN~iCE t@ impose an annual street poll tax on the male inhabit~f
ants of the Town of Marysville,Washington.'
BE IT ORDaINED BY THE TOWN COUNCIL OF TIlli Tovm OF NilUfYSVILLE:
SECTION 1.That there be and hereby is imposed an annual street
p@li ~·tax on each ima Le inhabitant,over the age of twenty one years,
of the 'I'own of lv;arysville,Washingtcm,in the sum of two dollars
($2.00);which shall be assessed and collected by the street com-
missioner and which must be collected before the first day of Dec-
ember of each year.Such poll tax must be paid on demand to the street
comrnissioner as hereinafter prOVided.
SECTION 2.The Street Commissioner shall immediately after the
passage,approval,and publication of this ordinance in this year
and annually in the month of March hereafter make a list of all persons
liable for street poll tax for the year and shall demand from each such
person on such list the amount due from such person as such poll tax.
SECTION 3.Any person liable for street poll tax,under the pro-
Visions of this ordinance,may pay the same in labor on the streets
alleys andother public places of the~own,provided such labor shall be
done at such time and in such manner,as the street commissioner may
direct.
SECTION 4.It is hereby made the duty of the street commissioner .
to fine each person liable to poll tax,who has not paid his tax in 'j
money,at least (3)days notice when and where he will be reqUired to
appear and perform .labor on the streets,alleys,and other public places
of the ~ovm,in paJ~ent of his street poll tax,and it shall be the duty
of the street commissioner to super-v l se and direct the performance of
such labor.Every person who shall appear and perform eight (8)hours
faithful and diligent labor on the streets,alleys and other public
places,as directed by the street conrraissioner,shall be entitled to
a receipt for his poll tax for the current year.
SECTION 5.If any person liable for such street poll tax shall fail
or refuse to perform such labor at such time and in the manner directed
by the street commissioner,it shall immediately become due and payable
in money,and if not paid on demand the street coramissioner shall im-
mediately proceed to collect the amount in the manner prOVided by the
Waws of the State of Washington for the collection oftthe County road
poll tax and shall have the same power in collecting as given to road
superVisors and shall enforce payment in the same manner.
SECTION 6.It shall be the duty of the Clerk,on or before the first
day of April in each year,to deliver to the street cow~issioner a suf-
ficient number of poll tax receipts,stamped with the seal of the Town
and he shall charge the street cemmissioner with the amount of the
receipts at Two Dollars ($2.00);each;and in settlement with said
street comraissioner he shall credit him with Two Dollars ($2.00)for
each receipt returned and also with the amount of labor performed on
the streets ¢for which poll tax receipts were given.
SECTION 7.That ordinances nos.22,49,60, 69,
ordinances and parts of ordinances in fonflict With
this ordinance ,be and the same are hereby repealed.
