HomeMy WebLinkAboutO-0132 - Working prisoners (Repealed by 965)ORDINANCE No.132 WORKING PRISONERS: AN ORDINANCE providing for the working of town prisoners. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE TOV{N COUNCIL OF THE TOVrr~OF WUillYSVILLE: SECTION 1.All town prisoners,during the:cterm of their commi t- ment upon conviction,shall be liable to work upon the streets, avenues,alleys,public squares,other public .places or other public property or works within the ~own of Marysville. SECTION 2.Such town prisoners shall labor as herein provided, under the direction of the illown Marshal,whose duty it shall be to see that prisoners are guarded to prevent escape,and if necessary, he may shackle them. SECTION 3.No prisoner shall be compelled to labor more than eight (ar'hours in one day.If any person shall refuse to labor when and where directed by the marshall or other person having him in charge,he shall be compelled to go upon the street or other public place and have attached to his leg a ball and chain. SECTION 4.At the first regular meeting in each month the marshal shall make report to the Town Council the names of the prisoners who shall have performed work during the preceding month,together with the number of days work performed,the kind of work and the aggregate number of days work performed by prisoners under his direction during the said preceding month. SECTION 5.This Ordinance shall not be construed to tequire any female prisoner to perform labor or any prisoner to labor on Sunday. SECTION 6.The term"prisoner"and "town prisoner"as used in this ordinance shall be construed to include all persons who may here- after be committed to the town jail of said town upon conviction of a violation of any ordinance of said town. SECTION 7.This ordinance shall take effect from and after its passage,approval and publication,according to law.
