TRAFFIC :WRDIN.l\.NCE
General Regulations:
AN ORDIN.l\.NCE regulating the using,running and operating of auto-
~biles or other motor vehicles in the ~own of Marysville,and
provig.Jp.g ..~.Jlenal ty i:1or the violation thereof,and repealing
al~~o~d1~an~~._~~R~rtsof Ordinances in conflic~with the
pr-ov Lat ons .or this ordinance.
BE 1'1'"ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF lVIA:lIYSVILLE,As follows:-
SECTION 1.The words and phrases herein used,unless the same
be clearly.contrary to or inconsistent with the context of the
ordinance or section in which used,shall be construed as follows:
"MotOr Vehicle~shall inclUde all vehicles or machines propelled
by any pwwer other than muscular,used upon the public highways
for.the transportation of persons,freight,produce or any e.om-
modity,except traction engines temporarily upon the public high-
.way,road rollers,or.road making machines,and motor vehicles
that run upon rails or tracks;"Automobile"shall mean the ordin-
ary four wheeled motor vehiCle,and shall be synonyerous with the
term ~Motor veh;cle u except as otherWise herein.provided:"Motor-
cycle"shall mean motor vehicles of two or three wheels intended
for the carrying of one,two or three persons,or operated by
one person for the carrying of small parcels or packages;the
word UStreetnwhenever used in this ordinance shall be held and
construed to mean and include streets,avenues,ways,bOUlevards,
drives,highways,alleys and all places open to the public for
the use of vehicles;"Motor truck"shall mean any motor vehicle'
designated or used for the transportation of commodities,merchan-
dise,produce,freight or amimals;nTrailer"shall mean any vehrumle
which is attached to a motor vehicle for the purpose of being
drawn or propelled by such motor vehicle.
SECTION 2.It shall be unlawful for the owner,operator,
driver or person in charge of any such vehicle,as defined by
Section.lor this ordinance,upon the streets of the Town of
Marysville,.to fail,neglect or refuse to conform to and obey
the rules and.regulations herein provided.

SECTION 5.(AS amended by Sec.1 of 301)Motor or other
vehicles,shall not cross from one side of the street to the other
except within street intersections,and then only where no nNo
UTurn'!sign appears,if a "No.U TurnUsign is shJtown within
the interseution then .the driver must proceed on in,the direction
he is travelling or turn to the right into the intersecang street.

SECTION 5-2.(As added by Sec.3 of 301)At street intersect-
ions where there is suspe$d above the center thereof (or placed
at any other point therein)an aUfftO")tic green and red signal
light and .bell,the driver must bring his vehicle to a complete
stop in the interval between the ringing of the bell and the
flashing on of the red light facing him,and must cause his
vehicle.to remain stationary until the flashing on of the green
light,at which time'he may proceed through the intersection.

SEOTION 16.No person while riding a bicycle,tricycle or
motor cycle or other vehicle shall take hold of any automobile
for the purpose of holding on to and being carried al0ng by said

SEOTION 20.Pedestrians shall have the right of way at street ~.
intersections and.crossings;vehicles the right of way betwElen
street intersBctions.and crossings.At street intersections each
vehicle shall have the right of way over vehicles ~pproachingfrom
the left,and the driver of every vehicle shall look out·for and
give way to vehicles approaclling the intersection from the right.

SEOTION 22.It shall be unlawful for any person or fort.he driver

to ride upon the running board of any automobile ormotor'vehicl,!",
and it shall be unlawful for any person,.or for the:.driver.or
operator of any bicycle,tricycle,or motor cycle to permiiot any
person to ride any such bicycle,tricycle or motorcycle.except
in a seat provided for the carrying of paflsengers.
SEOTION 23.That racing of automobiles or motor cycles.on the
public ,highway is hereby forbidden;provided;however,the ~owrt
Oouncil may designate and set aside certain portiqns of th~.
public highway for limited periods to be used for s.peed ..trailsor
speed contests.
SEOTION 24.Every person driving or operating a motor/VJ.ehtdle
on approching any vehicle drawn by a horse or horses Oran:>,,;'
horse upon which any person I.s riding,shall operate,nianage
and control such vehicle in such manner as to exercise reasonable
precaution to prevent frightening of any such horse or horses
and to insure the safety and protection of any person riding or.
driving the same ,If such horse or horses appear frightened,):the
person in control of said motor vehicle shall reduce thespeElcf

SEOTION 26.Every owner or operator of any motor tr~&k or auto
stage using the public highway..in said town shall equip-psuch
truck or auto stage with a mirror or other device·'to enable.the
driver thereof to have such a clear and unobstructed view of the
rear as will enable him to obey the "rule of the road,"when
overtaken by any other vehicle.
SEOTION 27.Any peace offic.er of·the '!;own of Marysville/niay
make arrests for any violation of this ordinance,With or ,without
warrant therefor,upon showing his authority as such officer.

SECTION 28.MY person violating any of the provisions of this
ordinance shall be deemed gUilty of a misdemeanor and upon con-
viction thereof sh~ll be adjudged to pay a fine on not less than
Jrive ($5.00)Dollars and not exceeding One Hundred (100.)Dollars
and the costs of prosecution,or in default of the payment of
said fine and costs,be imprisoned for a )eriod of time not
exceeding one day for each 'l'hree ($3.00)Dollars of said fine and
costs.
SECTION 29.(As amended by Sec.5.of Ordinance 301)'l'his
Ordinance is necessary for the preservation of the peace,health
and safety and the support of the Government of the Town of
Marysville,and shall take effect imnlediately upon its publication.
