3ection 2.03 Fire Hydrants,Tees,Gate Valves and Blow-off'
Section 1.Definitions,
a.Approving authority"-the approving author-Ley

Se~tion 6.Fire hydrants ~hall be installed on all extensions

:1ydrants'shall be installed a t each,intersection of a street or
public road and at such intermediat~,points as will 'result 'in
spacing between hYdrants in residential areas of not to exceed 600
feet)measured along road centerlines,EXCEPT as 'follows:'
a.If adja~ent road o~street interse~tions are
spaced at 1/8 mile (660')intervals the hydrant spacing may also
be 1/8 mile.
b.The hydrant may be omitted at an intersection if:
(1)The sum of the two greatest distances from
the center of that intersectiont6 the ~enter of adjacent inter~ections
(where hydrants are existing or proposed or where no ~ater mains
exist)in all directions is less than 600 feet;or
,(2)The sum of the.distances to the center of
the two adjacent intersections along the extension is less than
600 feet and the distances on the cross street to the·first inter-
sections in both direc~ions ~re'both mbre than'660 feet.
c.In general,all hydrants are to be located 6.0
feet from the right-of-way line in a 50 or 60 footh right-of-way
and 1.0 f oot;from the 'right-'of-way line in a 40 foot right-of-way.'
Section 7.Fire hydrants shall also be installed at the ends
of the deadend lines which are more than 300 feet in length.Said'
hydrants may later be moved to cQnform t~standard spacing requirements
vYhen the main 'is again extended"under supervision of the Superintendent.,
3ection'8.The ,buildings having r~quired fire flow of less,
than 2500 gpm (other than building~of fire resistive construction)

of hydrants protecting buildings requiring fire'flows larger than

Section 9.All hydrants ~hall standpl~b,be ~et,to the
estab1ishedgrade with the10west out1et'ofthe hydrant no less
than eighteen'(18)Lnches above the grade and no leas than'thirty-
six (36)inches of clear area about th~hydrant for clearance of,
the hydrant ~rrench on both outlets and on the control valve.The
pumper port shall face the street •tJhere the street'cannot be
clearly defined or recognized,the port shall face the most like~y
route ofapproa.ch ami location of the fire truck while pumping,
this to be determined by the approving authority.
Section 10.If the 'use of the property changes~the existing
hydrants shall be updated to c.onform to the:requirements of this
section of the code.

Section 12.Noone shall plant any vegetation,'erect any.

vi~w of a fire hydrant for a distance,6f'fifty (50)feet.The

shal.l be responsi.'b~e for removing weed ,arid tree growth from around
the hydrant.for a dis t ance of not 1es~than ten (10),feet.The'

purpose 'of this section is to maintain a,~lear visual area around
the hydrant.
Section 13.,Nobui·lding..permits shall be'issued for erection
of any.bui~ding or structure until.reasonable pl;"oof of intent to
comply with this ordinance is indicated'and ·the approving authority
is s~tisfied'thai:hydrants are to be installed to comply ll1ith this
ordin.a.nce.
'B,•.Blow-off valves shall be installed at the end of all
dead-end lines less than 300 feet ,in length unle~s a fire hydrant
is provided at ,that point.A b~ow~off assembly shall conform to
~arysville ~tandard Detail or be~pproved by the5uperintendent.
C.Gate valves or '(vater control'valves.A gate valve shall

be located at the end of all dead-end lines in which a future
extension is anticipated by.the City Enginee~.Gate valves may.
be required on the ends of dead tees or crosses at the discretion
of the City ~ngineer.

D.Tees and crosses.Tees and crosses shall be provided at
all street crossings v:rhere future extensions might develop or,wher-e
the City anticipates a line may be installed for the purpose of
improVing circulation in the system.
Section 14.Compliance with all ~onditionsof this and
existing city ordinances shall be'req1.,1~red for connecting to city
mains.
Section 15.Violations of this:ordinance shall ,be punishable
by .a .fine of up to ~300.00,or imprisortme.~t·for up to ninety (90)
days or'by such fine and imprisonment~·

its passage,approval and five days f9l1~wi~g'it.s publication as
required by l~w.
