An Ordinance of the City of Marysville providing for and imposing a tax upon telephone,gas and electricity utilities. WHEREAS,the City Council has established the construc- tion or renovation of the City Library as a priority of the City;and WHEREAS,the City Council desires to impose a utility tax for the express purpose of creating revenues which may be de- posited in the Cumulative Reserve Building Fund of the City and ultimately used as a first priority for the construction or renova- tion of the library;Now,Therefore, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MARYSVILLE,WASHINGTON DO ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: Section 1.Generally.Business or utility taxes in an amount herelnafter speclfled are hereby levied and shall be collected against purveyors of utilities in the City of Marysville. Section 2.Telephone Business.Upon any telephone business there shall be levied a tax equal to 5%of the gross sub- scribers exchange monthly service charges billed to business and residence subscribers within the corporate limits of the City of Marysville.The tax shall be paid monthly on or before the 20th day of the following month.In computing said tax,there shall be deducted from said revenues the following items: (a)The amount of uncollectible service charges actually sustained by the taxpayer. (b)Amounts derived from transactions in inter- state or foreign commerce or from any business which the City is prohibited from taxing under the Constitutions of the State of Washington or the United States. The effective date of this tax shall be January 22, 1976. Section 3.Sale of Gases.Upon any business engaged in the sale of artlflcial,natural or mixed gases,there shall be levied a tax equal to 5%of the total gross monthly service charge billed to business and residence customers within the corporate limits of the City of Marysville.The tax shall be paid monthly on or before the 20th day of the following month.In computing said tax, -1- there shall be deducted from said revenues the amount of any uncollectible service charges actually sustained by the taxpayer. The effective date of this tax shall be January 20,1976. Section 4.Sale of Electricity.Upon every business engaged in the sale of electricity,including a public utility dis- trict,there shall be levied a tax equal to 5%of the total gross monthly service charges billed to business and residence customers within the corporate limits of the City of Marysville.The tax shall be payable monthly on or before the 20th day of the following month.In computing said tax,there shall be deducted from said revenues the amount of any uncollectible service charges actually sustained by the taxpayer.The effective date of this tax shall be January 1,1976. Section S.Tax Revenues.All revenues derived from the tax imposed hereln shall De deposited in the Cumulative Reserve Building Fund of the City of Marysville. this PASSED by t~~ncil and APPROVED by the Mayor d~~day of ~,197.('.
