CITY OF M A R.Y S V ILL E Marysville,Washington ORD INANCE NO.)Qc3 7 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF MARYSVILLE REPEALING SECTIONS 1.12.020,1.12.030 AND 1.12.040 OF THE MARYSVILLE MUNICIPAL CODE RELATING TO THE TRANSITION BETWEEN A THIRD-CLASS CITY AND AN OPTIONAL MUNICIPAL CODE CITY,'AND ENACTING A NEW SECTION IN SAID CHAPTER RELATING TO ELECTIVE OFFICERS OF THE CITY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MARYSVILLE,WASHINGTON,DO ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: Sect~on 1.Sections 1.12.020,1.12~030,and 1~12~040 of the Marsyville Municipal Code are hereby REPEALED for the reason that the same were special enactments relevant only during the transition per- iod when Marysville changed from being a third-class city to an optional municipal code city. Sect~on 2.A new section is hereby eriac t.ed in Chapter 1.12 of the Marysville Municipal Code providing as follows: 1.12.020 Elective Ci ty OffLc'er s ,The government of the City of Marysville shall be vested in an elected Mayor and an elected City Council consisting of seven members.Eligibility to hold an elective office shall be established by RCW 35A.12.030.The Mayor and the Councilmembersshall be elected for four-year terms and until their successors are elected and qualified.The posi- tions to be filled for the City Council shall be designated by consecutive numbers and shall be dealt with as separate offices for all election purposes.Officers shall be elected at bien- nial municipal elections to be conducted as provided in Chapter 35A.29 RCWi Council positions 1,2,3 and 4 shall be filled at one such election,and the Mayor's office and Council positions 5,6 and 7 shall be filled at the next such election.Election to positions on the City Council shall be by majority vote from the City at large.The City Council shall be the judge of the qualification of its members and determine contested elections of City officers,subject to review by certiorari as provided by law.The Mayor and Councilmembers shall qualify by taking an oath or affirmation of office.
