AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF MARYSVILLE,
WASHINGTON AMENDING MMC 2.50.040 and MMC 2.50.050
RELATING TO THE COMPENSATION OF THE MAYOR AND
COUNCIL MEMBERS.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MARYSVILLE, WASHINGTON
DO ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
WHEREAS,pursuantto Ordinance2475,codifiedas Chapter 2.51 of the Marysville
Municipal Code,the Cityestablisheda Salary Commission for the purposeof establishment
and reviewof the salaries paid bythe Cityto each electedCityofficial;and
WHEREAS,certain provisions ofMMC 2.50.040and MMC 2.50.050 relatingtothe
compensationof the Mayorand CouncilMembersconflictwith theprovisions ofMMC
Chapter 2.51 relatingtothe Salary Commission;
NOW, THEREFORE,THECITY COUNCIL OFTHECITYOF MARYSVILLE,
WASHINGTON DOORDAINAS FOLLOWS:
Section 1.MMC 2.50.040 ishereby amended to readas follows:
2.50.040 Compensation of mayor.
The mayorshall be paidas determined bythe Salary Commission asset forth in MMC
Chapter2.51. Inadditionto salary.the mayorshall be entitledto reimbursement for
mileageand out-of-pocketexpensesfor out-of-town meetingsonly that are incurred in
the performanceof the duties of the office. The mayorshall notengage inany other
employmentthat would interfere with regularlyscheduledmeetingsor the other duties
of the office.
Section2. MMC2.50.050 isherebyamendedto readas follows:

2.50.050 Compensation of council members.
Compensation for each council position,whether such position is filled by election or
appointment,shall be determined by the Salary Commission as set forth in MMC
Chapter 2.51. In addition to such compensation,all council members shall be entitled
to reimbursement for actual and necessary expenses incurred in the performance of the
duties of the office. Such reimbursement shall include $50.00 per day for each of the
meetings that are listed below,excluding regular city council meetings and city council
work sessions that are immediately after city council meetings,where said council
member is acting in the capacity of an official representative of the city, not to exceed
10 days per month.
Unless the council member is being paid for his/her attendance by an
organization other than the city, the following shall be considered reimbursable
meetings:
(I)Attendance at official functions of the following organizations to which the
city belongs:National League of Cities,Association of Washington Cities,Snohomish
County Association of Cities and Towns;
(2)Attendance at meetings where the council member is appointed or elected
to attend by the mayor, city council,Snohomish County Cities and Towns,Snohomish
County executive,Snohomish County council,the Governor,or State Legislature if the
reason for the appointment was because the individual is an elected official;
(3) City council workshops,city council retreats,emergency city council
meetings,or special city council meetings;
(4) Any functions at which the council member is representing the city at the
request of the mayor or by action of the city council;
(5) City facility dedications and city-sponsored graduations and award
ceremonies.
The above list is intended to exclude attendance at political functions.
Section 3.Severability.If any section,subsection,sentence,clause,phrase or
word of this ordinance should be held to be invalid or unconstitutional by a court of competent
jurisdiction,such invalidity or unconstitutionality thereof shall not affect the validity or
constitutionality of any other section,subsection,sentence,clause,phrase or word of this
ordinance.
