HomeMy WebLinkAboutO-2623 - Amends Sec. 2.80.040(2), code of ethics (2.80)CITY OF MARYSVILLE :!"'I>J '}...,,~,....-II Marysville,Washington CfG;/-I-~ ~M !J1;<Se- 1U1J:-M ORDINANCE No.~.b.23 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF MARYSVILLE, WASHINGTON AMENDING MMC 2.80.040(2)RELATING TO ACCEPTANCE OF THINGS OF VALUE BY CITY EMPLOYEES FROM THOSE HAVING DEALINGS WITH THECITY WHEREAS,MMC 2.80.040 provides ethical standards for City employees;and WHEREAS,MMC 2.80.040(2)currently provides a standard for acceptance of things of value that could allow City employees to innocently violate the standard;and WHEREAS,RCW 42.52.150 provides a more reasonable and workable standard for the acceptance of things of value by City employees;and WHEREAS,the City Council hereby finds that amending the code as follows to more closely conform to State standards would provide a more workable standard for City employees while maintaining high standards of ethical conduct; NOW,THEREFORE,THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MARYSVILLE,WASHINGTON DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: Section 1.Subsection (2)of section of MMC 2.80.040 shall be amended to read as follows: (2)Accepts or seeks for others any service,information or thing of value on more favorable terms than those granted to the public generally,from any person,finn or corporation having dealings with the city,except such service,information or thing of value may be accepted in an amount not in excess of fifty dollars from a single source per calendar year so long as it could not be reasonably expected that such service, information or thing of value would influence the vote, action, or judgment of the officer or employee,or be considered a reward for action or inaction. The value of gifts given to an official's or employee's family member or guest shall he attributed to the official or employee for the purpose of determining whether the limit has been exceeded,unless an independent business,family or social relationship exists between the donor and the family member or guest; Section 2.Effective Date. This ordinance shall become effective five (5) days after publication.
