HomeMy WebLinkAboutO-2628 - Amends Sec. 2.10.020 and 2.10.040, cable television advisory committee (2.10);~1" j, CITY OF MARYSVILLE Marysville,Washington ORDINANCE No.;).6.28" AN ORDINANCE· OF THE CITY OF MARYSVILLE, WASHINGTON AMENDING MMC 2.10.020 and 2.10.040 RELATING TO ORGANIZATION OF THE CABLE TELEVISION ADVISORYCOMMITTEE WHEREAS,MMC 2.10.020 and 2.10.040 provide for the organization of the Cable Television Advisory Committee ("Committee")and election of a Committee chairperson;and WHEREAS,MMC 2.10.040 currently allows a member ofthe city council to vote and serve as chairperson ofthe Committee;and WHEREAS,the city council hereby finds that amending the code to eliminate council membership would promote better advice from the Committee and better fulfill the Committee's purpose; NOW,THEREFORE,THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MARYSVILLE,WASHINGTON DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: Section I.MMC sections 2.10.020 and 2.10.040 shall be amended to read as follows: 2.10.020 Membership and terms of office (1)The committee shall consist of seven members,each of whom shall be appointed by the mayor,subject to confirmation by the city council. The members shall have the following qualifications: (a)One member shall be a representative of the Marysville School District; (b) Two members shall be representatives of nonprofit organizations and/or community service groups in the greater Marysville area; (c)Four members shall be at large positions filled by Marysville citizens. (2)Committee members shall serve a term of three years, and until their successors are duly appointed;provided,that the terms of office for three of the first members to be appointed shall be one year so as to provide for staggered retirement dates on the committee.The mayor shall have the right to remove any committee member from the office whenever it is deemed to be in the public interest. Ordinance -Amendment to Cable Advisory Committee Code 2.10.040 Committee organization The committee shall annually choose one of its members to serve as chairperson for a term of one year. Each of the members shall have one vote in all business coming before the committee. Four members shall constitute a quorum for the transaction of business. A majority vote of those members present shall be necessary for the adoption or approval of any measure.The committee shall hold regular public meetings as necessary,and the notice of the time and place thereof shall be published as required by law and kept in the office of the city clerk. Special meetings may be called at any time upon giving 24 hours'advance notice to each committee member and the press as required by law. Committee members shall serve without compensation,but shall be entitled to reimbursement for reasonable expenses incurred in the performance of their duties on behalf of the city. Section 2. Effective Date. This ordinance shall become effective five (5) days after publication. PASSED by the City Council and APPROVED by the Mayor this ~-t1-.day of May, 2006.
