AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MARYSVILLE, WASHINGTON, RELATING TO PARKING IN CITY PARKS AND AMENDING SECTION 6.82.125 OF THE MUNICIPAL CODE. WHEREAS, city parks are intended to provide recreational and cultural opportunities for park patrons; and WHEREAS, the City Council intends that there will be adequate parking for park patrons and that vehicles will not be parked in a manner that causes damage to park property; and WHEREAS, MMC 6.82.030 authorizes the park director rules and regulations for the use of park property, facilities, and equipment; and WHEREAS, the park director is authorized to issue rules and regulations and post signs to control parking within the city's parks. NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MARYSVILLE, WASHINGTON, DO ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. Section 6.82.125 of the municipal code is amended as set forth in Exhibit A. SECTION 2. Severability. If any section, subsection, sentence, clause, phrase or word of this ordinance should be held to be invalid or unconstitutional by a court of competent jurisdiction, such invalidity or unconstitutionality thereof shall not affect the validity or constitutionality of any other section, subsection, sentence, clause, phrase or word of this ordinance. SECTION 3. Upon approval by the city attorney, the city clerk or the code reviser are authorized to make necessary corrections to this ordinance, including scrivener's errors or clerical mistakes; references to other local, state, or federal laws, rules, or regulations; or numbering or referencing of ordinances or their sections and subsections. SECTION 4. Effective Date. This ordinance shall become effective five days after the date of its publication by summary. Motor vehicles shall park only in designated paved or graveled parking areas. Parking spaces within city parks are reserved for the use of park patrons during open park hours in conformance with regulations issued and signs posted by the Director; parking during closed park hours, overnight parking, parking outside of designated spaces, and residential parking on park property is prohibited. Nor shall any person park any vehicle in any park for the principal purpose of washing, greasing, or repairing such vehicle except repairs necessitated by an emergency. Any person parking in a park must comply with the requirements of chapter 11.08 of the municipal code and penalties for violating this section are as set forth in that chapter.
