A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF MARYSVILLE ADOPTING
MARYSVILLE FIRE DEPARTMENT STANDARDS RELATING TO
SPRINKLER AND ALARM SYSTEM INSTALLATION.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
MARYSVILLE,WASHINGTON AS FOLLOWS:
The City Council hereby approves and adopts the attached
copy of Marysville Fire Department Standard #3 entitled:
Guidelines for sprinkler and alarm system installation
for Residential Division 1 Occupancies where required
by UBC Section 3802(H)and/or UFC section 14.104(C),
1988 Editions.

MARYSVILLE FIRE DEPARTMENT STANDARD #3
Standard for sprinkler and alarm system installation for Residential
Division 1 Occupancies where required by 3802 (H),UBC and 14.104 (C)
UFC,1988 Editions.
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:Sprinkler systems located wi thin the City of
Marysville shall meet the criteria as set forth in the 1988 Uniform
Fire Code,the 1988 Uniform Building code,and the following:
1).All systems shall be designed,drawn,and installed by a
licensed sprinkler contractor.The designer shall be at
least a NICET Level II Residential Design Specialist.When
requested,.a copy of the technicians certification from NICET
shall be submitted to the Marysville Fire Department.
2).The sprinkler system design shall be reviewed by an approved
outside agency prior to approval by the Marysville Fire
Department.
3).The sprinkler system shall,as a mInImum meet the requirements
set forth in NFPA 13R ·Standard for the Installation of Sprinkler
Systems in Residential Occupancies up to Four Stories in Height.·
4).Fixed temperature heat detectors shall be installed in areas
not required to be protected by the sprinkler system.These
areas may include bathrooms,attics,penthouse equipment rooms,
and elevator shafts.Small clothes closets as defined in
NFPA 13R,Chapter 2-6,Exception No.2,will be exempt.
SPECIAL REOUIREMENTS
1).The sprinkler system and fire alarm system shall be
supervised by an approved local U.L.Listed alarm agency when
the total number of sprinkler heads and heat detectors meet
or exceed 100.Provide a valid contract with an alarm agency
prior to occupancy.
2).Provide a copy of a valid contract for maintenance,emergency
repair,and annual testing and certification of the sprinkler and
alarm system.This contract shall be required to take effect at
the completion of the warranty period.
3).A fire alarm control panel is required for receiving flow
alarms,trouble signals,any other signals generated from
components of sprinkler systems,and fire alarm system
signals,shall be located on the project site and shall
be U.L.Listed for that use.The fire alarm panel shall
show zones as approved by the Fire Marshal.

4).At least one 2 1/2"inch fire department connection shall
be provided when the sprinkler system has 20 sprinklers or
more.The fire department connection shall be located
adjacent to fire department apparatus access.The location
shall be approved by the Fire Marshal.The distance between
the fire department connection and a hydrant shall be 30
feet or less.
Fire Department connections located in areas subject to
vehicular damage shall be protected by means of guard posts
per Fire Marshals approval.
All Fire Department connections shall be painted red on the
portion of the standpipe which protrudes above the ground.
The clappered brass portion may remain unpainted.All
connections shall be labeled in accordance with NFPA
standards.
5).All sprinklered bUildings shall provide a dedicated space with a
locked access door on an exterior wall to contain the
sprinkler equipment.This space may contain other
equipment,such that it does not interfere with access to
or the operation of sprinkler equipment.An approved key
box shall be provided with a key that will gain access
to the sprinkler equipment space only.
6).An approved metered double detector check valve shall be
required in all sprinkler systems.(See Public Works Department
for specifications and information).
7).All automatic initiating devices shall be located and
installed per the manufacturer's specifications and NFPA 72E
current edition and shall have a performance test per
NFPA 72H current edition.
8).Audible signaling devices shall be provided,as per NFPA 72A,
such that upon an alarm being received by the fire alarm panel,
all occupants of the building shall be alerted.
9).The fire alarm panel shall have a dedicated circuit as its
source of power.This circuit shall not be connected to a
tenants electrical panel.
10).All fire alarm panels shall be installed in such a manner
that they are protected from weather or moisture.

11).Annunciator panels shall be provided and located so as to be
readily accessible to Fire Department personnel.
12).Smoke detectors in sleeping areas as required by Uniform
Building Code Section 1210(a)shall not be connected to
the fire alarm system.
