(2G:~~ ~::--P..J!L, WHEREAS,volunteer morale is extremely beneficial in reaching the city's goal of providing the most proficient and effective public services possible;and, WHEREAS,recognition of volunteer performance promotes overall high morale of citizens who volunteer and provides a vehicle to reward outstanding service; and WHEREAS,the establishment of a volunteer recognition program is beneficial to the City of Marysville and in the best interest of its citizens; and NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MARYSVILLE,WASHINGTON AS FOLLOWS: 1. It shall be the policy of the City of Marysville to allow recognition and expression of its appreciation,in a manner appropriate for a governmental agency,to those who volunteer their time or services by serving on boards/commissions/committees,carrying out assignments,or otherwise assisting in the performance of City functions. 2. The cost and expenses of providing such recognition and appreciation for volunteers shall be budgeted. 3.Requests for recognition must be submitted to the City Administrator or his/her designee for approval prior to expenditure. In approving such expenditures there must be a finding that the City has received a benefit due to the time, services or efforts of a volunteer that is equal to or greater than the expenditure requested. 4.Examples of allowable expenses are as follows: • Cost of meals/refreshments at appropriate ceremonies such as annual volunteer appreciation dinner,board/commission/committee meetings, etc. ),.• Resolution No. Page 2 /qqr • Cost of symbols of recognition such as certificates, medals, plaque, pin or tie clip,jacket or cap,bouquet of flowers or an ornamental plant, or other object or experience demonstrating gratitude that convey the City's appreciation. • Costs of meals of interviewers involved in assessment centers or daylong interviews. • Cost of transportation and lodging for out-of-town interviewers or assessors. • Cost of board/commission/committee members at official city-business related training and meetings, i.e.,conferences,workshop, etc. • Cost of meals provided durinq emergency situation,i.e., major police incident,water main break, natural disaster,etc. • Cost of working lunches at city facilities such as with citizen committees, county/state/tribal officials and the like.
