A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF MARYSVILLE IN SUPPORT OF PROPOSITION
NO.1 ON THE ELECTION BALLOT OF SEPTEMBER 19,2000,LEVYING TAXES FOR
EMERGENCY MEDICAL CARE AND SERVICES INCLUDING PARAMEDIC SERVICES
FOR MARYSVILLE FIRE DISTRICT'S MEDIC PROGRAM.
WHEREAS,Marysville Fire District has been providing
outstanding paramedic service to the people of Marysville,and
has diligently covered very corner of the City,seven days a week
and 24 hours a day,with the demand for service steadily
increasing each year;and
WHEREAS,the City Council has found that there exists a
critical need to maintain and improve emergency medical care and
services in the City,including related personnel costs,training
for such personnel,and related equipment,supplies,vehicles and
structures needed for said services;and
WHEREAS,the true cost of providing this service has risen
faster than property taxes have increased;and
WHEREAS,the 1999 legislature in Chapter 224,Laws of
Washington,1999,has authorized the City to submit a proposition
to the voters for authorization of a property tax levy,
supporting EMS;and
WHEREAS,the City's medic program would be maintained and
improved under a proposed ballot issue being submitted to voters,
NOW,THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF MARYSVILLE,WASHINGTON AS FOLLOWS:
1.The City Council of the City of Marysville heartily'
supports the proposed ballot issue being submitted to Marysville
voters on September 19,2000,in the amount of a maximum of fifty
cents ($0.50)per one thousand dollars ($1,000)of assessed
property valuation for emergency medical care and services
including paramedic services for Marysville Fire District's medic
program.
2.The City Council as a whole and Councilmembers
individuallY authorize the EMS Levy Committee to use names of
Councilmembers in supporting and promoting passage of this levy.
3.The City Council supports additional public information
efforts to provide voters with the most accurate,up to date,and
unbiased details on the merits of Marysville Fire District's
medic program.
