HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-2107 - Urging settlement of Labor issues between Marysville Education Association and Marysville School DistrictCITY OF MARYSVILLE Marysville,Washington RESOLUTION NO. 2107 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF MARYSVILLE CITY COUNCIL URGING SETTLEMENT OF LABOR ISSUES BETWEEN MARYSVILLE EDUCATION ASSOCIATION AND MARYSVILLE SCHOOLDISTRICT. WHEREAS,the Marysville City Council recognizes that the City has no authority to require settlement of a collective bargaining agreement or other labor issues between the parties;and WHEREAS,the Marysville City Council recognizes that the protracted negotiations between the Marysville School District (District) and the Marysville Education Association (MEA) and the resulting labor issues have caused significant direct impacts to public education in the City of Marysville; and WHEREAS,the Marysville City Council also recognizes the community-wide impacts resulting from said labor issues.Examples of such impacts are overtime for Marysville Police and extraordinary demands on the Marysville Public Library; and WHEREAS,the Marysville City Council is vitally interested in the community-wide effect the strike has had on business, teachers, the school administration,and especially parents and their student age children; NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MARYSVILLE,WASHINGTON AS FOLLOWS: The Marysville City Council urges the District and the MEA to use every reasonable method to settle their differences,negotiate a fair and equitable collective bargaining agreement and most importantly,to settle the labor issues which led to the protracted strike. The Marysville City Council requests that the District and the MEA keep at the forefront the importance of providing quality education for the school age children of our community.
