HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-2133 - In support of improvements at the 116th St. NE/ I-5 InterchangeRESOLUTION NO.dl/33 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF MARYSVILLE IN SUPPORT OF IMPROVEMENTS AT THE 116 TH STREET NE/I-5 INTERCHANGE WHEREAS,growth in our area has added many more vehicles to our roads, and the amount of freight and goods traveling throughout the City of Marysville, Tulalip Tribes of Washington and Snohomish County has substantially increased over the last decade; and WHEREAS,there has been no significant increase in investment to improve the City of Marysville,Tulalip Tribes of Washington and adjacent Snohomish County transportation infrastructure during that time frame; and WHEREAS,cities, tribes and counties lack funding to fix dangerous intersections and to adequately maintain,preserve and improve city and county streets; and WHEREAS,the overpass at I16th Street NE and Interstate 5 is inadequate and causes delays and backups,increases the frequency of automobile accidents, and delays emergency vehicles traveling over that overpass and through nearby intersections;and WHEREAS,the City's business community,commerce and the City's resulting economic health and development,is harmed if customers,delivery personnel, and employees cannot quickly and efficiently access Marysville places of business;and WHEREAS,development at Quil Ceda Village is a major part of the local economy which will be hampered without overpass improvements at II6th Street NE and Interstate 5; and WHEREAS,the overpass at us"Street NE and Interstate 5 is a project with substantial economic benefit on all of north Snohomish County, and deserves the highest priority on Washington State Department of Transportation project lists; NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Marysville,Washington,as follows: I. The City supports efforts to find funding from local, state, federal and private sources to fund the critical and necessary transportation improvements for the Marysville area including II6th Street NE and Interstate 5; (I ~".. 1-1:!! 2. The City urges all elected officials,including the Marysville City Council, Tulalip Tribes of Washington Council,the Snohomish County Council, our Washington State Representatives and Senators, and our U.S. Congressional delegation, to work together to find a way to take the necessary political and financial steps to fund and construct the overpass improvements at 116th Street NE and Interstate 5; and 3. The City Council urges all ofthe citizens and businesses in Marysville, Quil Ceda Village and unincorporated north Snohomish County to find ways to make the public and our local, state and national leaders aware of the critical need for the overpass improvements at II6th Street NE and Interstate 5.
