HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-2153 - Supporting Proposition No. 1 of the Marysville School District relating to General Obligation Bonds on the Ballot September 20,2005CITY OF MARYSVILLE Marysville,Washington RESOLUTION NO.2./53 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF MARYSVILLE SUPPORTING PROPOSITION NO. 1 OF THE MARYSVILLE SCHOOL DISTRICT RELATING TO GENERAL OBLIGATION BONDS ON THE BALLOT SEPTEMBER 20,2005. WHEREAS,it has come to the City Council's attention that the Marysville School District has placed before the voters on September 20, 2005 Proposition No. I relating to general obligation bonds for school district improvements and equipment;and WHEREAS,the Marysville School District has determined there is an urgent need for various construction projects and related equipment to provide for the continuation of quality public education for the City's youth; and WHEREAS,the economic vitality of the City of Marysville and the greater Marysville area is dependent upon or affected by the stability of the Marysville School District;and WHEREAS,the Mayor and Marysville City Council wish to urge voters to vote in favor of Marysville School District Proposition No. I at the upcoming bond election;and WHEREAS,following the opportunity for public input and equal opportunity for members of the City Council and the public to express opposing views as required by RCW 42.17.130(1); NOW THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MARYSVILLE,WASHINGTON AS FOLLOWS: The Mayor and City Council ofthe City of Marysville do hereby urge all registered voters within the Marysville School District boundaries to carefully consider Proposition No.I of the Marysville School District to participate in the September 20, 2005 election,and to vote in favor of such Ballot Measure which reads as follows: PROPOSITION NO. I MARYSVILLE SCHOOL DISTRICT GENERAL OBLIGATION BONDS -$171,600,000 The Board of Directors of Marysville School District No. 25 adopted Resolution No.2005-19 concerning this proposition for bonds.The proposition authorizes the District to construct and equip a new high school and new and replacement elementary schools;renovate athletic facilities; make health and safety upgrades;acquire land;modernize the existing high school;acquire new and renovate existing technology facilities;and make other capital improvements,issue $171,600,000 of general obligation bonds maturing within a maximum of 20 years,and levy excess property taxes annually to repay the bonds,as provided in Resolution #2005-19.Should RESOLUTION -1 W/wpf7mv/res.constbond this proposition be: APPROVED?0 REJECTED?0 f1, PASSED bythe City Council and APPROVED bytheMayorthis ~day of September, 2005. ::~L/2;; DENNIS KENDALL,Mayor ATTEST: Approved asto form: By/J~~ GRANT K.WEED,CityAttorney RESOLUTION -2 W/wpflmv/res.constbond
