A RESOLUTION OF THE CIlY OF MARYSVILLE URGING VOTERS TO
CONSIDER PROPOSITION NO. I OF THE MARYSVILLE SCHOOL
DISTRICT RELATING TO A REPLACEMENT EDUCATION PROGRAMS
AND OPERATIONS LEVY ON THE BALLOT FEBRUARY 7,2006.
WHEREAS, it has come to the City Council's attention that the Marysville School District will
submit a replacement Education Programs and Operations Levy for voter approval on February 7, 2006;
and
WHEREAS, the Marysville School District has represented that:
I. The replacement levy is not a new tax - it replaces an expiring tax,
2. The tax rate remains the same as 2005 - $3.15 per $1000 of assessed value.
3. The replacement levy would provide nearly one dollar out of five for daily general fund
operations.
4. The state limits the amount of funds that districts may request from voters.
5. All Snohomish County school districts rely on the levy to support educational programs
and operations not fully funded by the state.
6. More than half of the Snohomish County districts will vote on replacement levies on
February 7, 2006 (the remaining Snohomish County districts vote two years from now).
7. The levy provides for books and instructional materials; athletics and student activities;
student transportation; special education; salaries not funded by the state; added staff to
support educational programs; heat, light and insurance.
NOW THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
MARYSVILLE,WASHINGTON AS FOLLOWS:
The Mayor and City Council of the City of Marysville do hereby urge all registered voters within
the Marysville School District boundaries to carefully consider Proposition No.1 of the Marysville
School District and to participate in the February 7, 2006 vote of such Ballot Measure.
