Re : City of Marysville Letter of Authori zation :
2023 -2024 Periodic Update Grant
Dear Mr. Andersen and Ms . Fox :
On behalf of the City of Marysville, I, Jon Nehring, Mayor of Marysville, authorize the City to
propose the attached scope of work and budget request for the Growth Management Act 2023 -
2024 Periodic Update Grant. The Periodic Update Grant funds will help support our planning
efforts as we look forward to 2044 , and advance City policies pertain i ng to transportation and
housing .
The City of Marysville has grown considerably since the last Period ic Update in 2015 . Over the
last seven years, the City has welcomed approximately 7,800 new cit izens to the community,
many of whom have settled in our flourishing Lakewood and East-Sunnyside Whiskey Ridge
neighborhoods . In the designated Cascade Industrial Center, the City's long held vision for
industrial growth and employment is coming to fruition with over 460 acres of land that either
have , or are currently pursuing, land use entitlements . The recently adopted Downtown Master
Plan , funded by E2SHB 1923 grant funds , and the imminent complet ion of our Civ i c Center are
renewing interest in investing in and revitalizing our Downtown . The City is grateful for the recent
award of the Early Implementation Climate Planning Grant which will further our sustainability ,
risk management and resil iency efforts as we plan for the future .
The Per iodic Update Grant funds will be used to update the Transportation Element/Plan , develop
a Housing Action Plan, and enhance the aesthetics and usability of the City's Comprehensive
Plan . The City agrees to take the necessary actions to accomp li sh the grant object ives which
include conducting public outreach , holding public meetings , and submitting grant deliverables no
later than June 30 , 2023 for the fi r st phase of the grant, and June 30 , 2024 for the second phase
of the grant. The City commits that , at a minimum, these actions will meet all requirements of the
2023 -2024 Periodic Update Grant.
The City of Marysville greatly appreciates the award of 2023 -2024 Periodic Update Grant funds
which will help in our 2024 Comprehensive Plan update efforts. Should you have any questions
during your review of our application , please contact Haylie Miller, Community Development
